As part of the 1951 Festival of Britain, Creativity, Culture and Education has collaborated with the Southbank Centre to showcase some of Britain's most creative schools.
The 1951 Festival of Britain celebrated all aspects of British achievement from agriculture and engineering through to education. The Future Schools pavilion of 1951 was for all children to access the latest resources and environment needed to learn. Education in Britain has evolved considerably over the last 60 years and this exhibition highlights the imagination of young people and the teachers and artists who support them.
The aim of the exhibition is to demonstrate how schools today are teaching creatively, collaborating with their communities and helping every child to develop their imagination and creativity. A majority of the work in this exhibition has been sourced from Creative Partnerships' Schools of Creativity, who develop and share innovative approaches to learning.
The exhibition will be at the Royal Festival Hall from 14 July - 5 September. But the 1951 Festival of Britain was not only a landmark celebration in London.; it also reached out to regional locations throughout Britain, and in keeping with this aim a smaller version of this exhibition will tour in up to 10 locations throughout Britain from September 2011 to July 2012.
