The Earls High School, West Midlands
Project Einstein involves students working with creative professionals in order to design curriculum experiences and materials for younger students. In this workshop students and creative professionals will exemplify the activities of the Einstein team through discussion and presentation of their work so far. They will share how the project is now being rolled out through each faculty area within the school. You will also learn how students from project Einstein delivered an INSET workshop to staff and are developing a recruitment programme for new Einstein members.
Accrington Academy, Lancashire
This workshop will look at how staff and students at Accrington Academy have engaged with and used the Prevent project to tackle difficult community questions. The workshop will also explore how these questions have been taken by students into the community. Accrington Academy will provide a practical insight into the Prevent materials and give suggestions for starting the process in your own school. The school will also distribute their free resource pack to all delegates at the workshop.
The Wroxham School, Hertfordshire
This workshop will take you through the initial idea in Wroxham to buy a bus and the importance of pupil voice in this idea. The school will describe how they have managed to cover several subject areas in their bus topic and will demonstrate how this project showed the importance of including everyone in decision making, having a real purpose and following things through to the end. There will be time to think about a small scale project that could be started in your own school and the school will suggest other small scale ideas that have happened at Wroxham as, of course, you don’t have to buy a bus!

Lakers School, Gloucestershire
Students from year 8 and 10 will lead this hands-on workshop, challenging perceptions of the relationship between teachers and students. Through a series of activities the students will demonstrate impact that student voice has had on learning in Lakers School. This workshop will give you the opportunity to learn about the process and approach developed at Lakers School and their will opportunities for discussion, reflection, feedback and questions.
West Town Primary School, Peterborough
In this workshop West Town Primary will demonstrate the social cohesion strategy they have developed for their Peterborough city school. Pupils from West Town Primary School will describe what their school means to them and how enquiry learning develops social cohesion. An interactive activity will show how the children and adults use the ‘Learning Competencies’ of question, connect, explore, envisage, reflect in developing social cohesion.
John Harland and Dick Downing, LC Research Associates Ltd.
This workshop will draw on the early findings of the national evaluation of CCE's 'Enquiry Schools' Programme. The evaluation, which is being conducted by LC Research Associates, started in May 2009 and will report in October 2010. Some of the provisional results from the initial case studies and documentary analysis will be presented at the workshop. The possible repercussions of these findings for the practice of mounting successful 'Enquiry School' projects will be highlighted.
Find Your Talent is the Government’s pilot cultural offer for all children and young people. The programme is aiming to ensure they have access to the wide range of quality and sustained cultural experiences they deserve, both in and out of school. The programme aims to help them to discover new things, to express themselves, to develop a passion and to make the most of their talent – whether it is music, art, film, theatre, dance, digital media, exploring libraries, museums or heritage. There is strong evidence that these kinds of cultural experiences contribute in powerful ways to personal development, including enhancing life skills such as creativity, problem solving, self-discipline, teamwork and good communication as well as building confidence – all strong foundations for academic attainment and employability in the future. Find Your Talent is investing £25 million across ten pathfinder areas and a small number of other national programmes until 2011.
Manning School for Girls, Nottingham
This workshop will examine a model of setting up a student and community conference to promote social cohesion and inter-generational understanding. The workshop will give you resources and DVD materials and will provide an opportunity to speak to students who were involved. Presentations will take delegates through the process of setting up such activities and will demonstrate their profound impact on students, staff and members of the community.
Dr Sara Bragg and Dr Helen Manchester
This workshop will share some of the findings from CCE's 2009 research report on 'Youth Voice in the work of Creative Partnerships'. The report covers a wide range of activities that aim to put young people 'at the heart' of what Creative Partnerships does. The workshop will explore some of the different ways that 'youth voice' has been interpreted and put into practice, and reflect on the benefits and challenges that it poses for creative teaching and learning.
The Kingstone School, Barnsley
This workshop will give you an insight into how The Kingstone School has developed a coherent and consistent way of measuring progress in the acquisition and development of skills through creative learning. They will discuss their unique KS3 Cultural Studies course as well as the assessment model that they have been using for three years. ‘Assessment for Living’ will give you the opportunity to see the kind of work pupils do in Cultural Studies and hear feedback from parents and carers who have been involved in the process. The Kingstone School will also explain how such a model can be developed in a large comprehensive school and the potential of the model across a range of settings.
Emily Lamont and Pippa Lord (Senior Research Officer), National Foundation for Educational Research
This workshop will draw on the case study findings of the evaluation of the impacts of CP (CCE) on teachers’ career progression, professional skills and personal motivations and interests. The evaluation, which is being conducted by a team at NFER’s Northern Office, started in May 2009 and will report in October 2010. Using impact stories and visual trails, the workshop will look at how CP can make a difference to your professional development and your career progression. The research so far shows that impacts are rich and varied for individuals, and the workshop will include space for you to share your own experiences of the difference that CP has made to your career.
South Dartmoor Community College, Devon
In this workshop South Dartmoor Community College will look at how new technologies are able to transform pedagogy. They will share findings from two projects, ‘Light Shifts’ and a project that explored the periodic table using sound beam technology. The workshop will demonstrate the many cross-curricular benefits of these projects and will give you the opportunity to try out the technology used in the projects.
Jubilee and Lauriston Primary Schools, Hackney
This workshop will outline the first year of Jubilee and Lauriston Primary Schools’ School of Creativity project ABC. This project aimed to take the cultural offer available in London and share it with a selected group of parents. The workshop will share some of Jubilee and Lauriston’s findings and invite parents who took part in the project to give their views on the value of culture both in their children's and their own lives. There will also be discussions around the benefits of working in this kind of partnership with children, their parents, and teachers.
Professor Pat Thomson, Professor of Education, The University of Nottingham
Pat will examine the findings from the national creative school change project, highlighting findings that will be helpful in designing school based professional development.
