Select Committee report – Creative Partnerships and the Curriculum

2007

The Select Committee appreciates the central role that creativity plays in enhancing the educational experience for young people. It recommends that Creative Partnerships must aspire to provide opportunities and share best practice with all schools and young people in England. It states there is a need for a nationally agreed framework owned by the DCSF, which recognises progress in the development of young people’s creativity. There is also a need to take creativity seriously and place it at the heart of all learning.

The Chairman of the Education and Skills Committee, Mr Barry Sheerman MP, said:

"Successful schools are creative schools. Our inquiry found a high level of support for creative approaches to teaching and learning in schools, with many practitioners clearly convinced of the positive effects on a child's learning and development."

Paul Collard, National Director for Creative Partnerships added:

"I am absolutely delighted that the Committee has recognised the importance of the work that has been done over the last few years by so many teachers, creative practitioners and children.

I believe that Creative Partnerships brings to schools and young people a vital ingredient of education. We will do all in our power to implement the Committee's recommendations, in particular that our work should be made more widely available to schools and young people".
